Students first gain an understanding of material transformation and biological information, based on the knowledge of the atoms and molecules that are the smallest building blocks of which substances are made. Then they study how to design substances freely with the desired functions, and further to develop the systems for creating and producing these substances. Another objective is to have students engage seriously with the environmental issues of today. To this end the Department provides broad-based and systematic education on the pursuit of "green chemistry," a comprehensive approach to the manufacture, management, use, disposal, and recycling of chemical substances. Why Choose Us? This Department has produced numerous outstanding research achievements over the past 90 years since its founding. The countless world-first achievements of the Department include the establishment of liquid ammonia chemistry, development of a flue gas desulfurization process, and proposal of the Hatta Number. The Department offers three courses, in Applied Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Biomolecular Engineering, for learning about today’s technologies; and these are incorporated into an integrated education program. While deepening their basic learning and specialized knowledge, the curriculum builds on the innate abilities of students to develop them into engineers responsible for advancing chemical technology in the 21st century.
