Note that if Javascript is disabled in your browser, you may have problems using or browsing this website HOME NEWS RCAST Report Professor Eri Itoh received the Best Session Award at the AIAA/IEEE Digital Aviation Systems Conference (DASC) Professor Eri Itoh received the Best Session Award at the AIAA/IEEE Digital Aviation Systems Conference (DASC) Award October 5, 2023 （From left to right）Mr. Ahmad Sufian Bin Jumad from Nanyang Technological University's ATMRI (Air Traffic Management Research Institute) and Professor Itoh At the 42nd AIAA/IEEE Digital Aviation Systems Conference (DASC), held from October 1st to 5th, 2023, a presentation paper summarizing collaborative research with a research team of Nanyang Technological University and Prof. Eri Itoh was awarded the Best of Session Air Traffic Control Human Factors Award. 【Title】 "Flow-Centric Air Traffic Control: Human in the Loop Simulation Experiment" The paper was authored by Ahmad Sufian Bin Jumad, Koji Tominaga, Xin Yi Chua, Eri Itoh, Michael Schultz, and Vu Nguyen Duong. 【About research】 This paper proposed a new air traffic control system targeting the ASEAN airspace, where future increases in air traffic demand are anticipated. It evaluated the operational feasibility of air traffic controllers through human-in-the-loop simulation experiments that simulated radar control at en-route facilities in the future. The paper suggested several findings, such as the determination of air traffic controllability by the number of interactions with surrounding air traffic rather than the number of aircraft flying in the target airspace, and the possibility of minimizing the number of air traffic controllers by grouping the air traffic based on its direction of movement. 【Comment】 I am delighted that the achievements of our international collaborative research team with Nanyang Technological University have been recognized. We are excited to continue advancing international collaborative research to apply scientific approaches to air traffic management in the Asian skies. Our goal is to ensure safe and environmentally friendly human mobility, and we look forward to the opportunities ahead.
