In addition to the conventional drinking water treatment processes (e.g., coagulation/sedimentation followed by rapid sand filtration), the choices of treatment technologies have been recently expanded by including novel treatment technologies which are recently gaining popularity (e.g., membrane filtration). On this basis, the relationships between raw water qualities and appropriate treatment technologies are currently investigated to establish knowledge, which allows us to make reasonable selection on arrangements of treatment systems and strategies for operation and maintenance of treatment plants based on raw water quality.
